The Ontario Provincial Municipal Act sets out the roles and responsibilities of your local Municipal Council. As your Councillor, and with her experience, Pam obtained a seat on the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association Board of Directors. This Board often has the direct ear of Provincial Ministers to advise what is needed in our communities. Through this work, Pam promotes Minden Hills and rural Municipalities to improve Broadband services, promote changes to the Provincial Planning Act for attainable housing, and promote the needs of our rural businesses.
Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) takes pride in promoting, supporting, and enhancing strong and effective rural governments. About 270 of Ontario’s 444 municipalities have populations of less than 10,000, while scores more are rural in character. The rural arm of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, ROMA advocates for policies and programs that will help build thriving rural Ontario communities. Pam became the ROMA representative for Zone 5 in her second term on council, which encompasses Durham Region, Haliburton County, City of Kawartha Lakes, District of Muskoka, Northumberland County, Peterborough County.
Pam was instrumental in ROMA’s Attainable Housing research paper which is being used to lobby and change the Planning Act to meet our rural Ontario needs.
